The Center for Guidance and Counseling Services is an integral part of the university which commits to develop and deliver comprehensive guidance programs that will holistically empower students with good moral values and right attitudes geared toward academic excellence and remarkable achievements for the good of our society.

Vision

We envision the Center to be the heart of the university where every student shall be empowered in realizing their fullest educational potential as lifelong learners with good moral values who are committed to excellence.

Mission

The Center shall develop a comprehensive program that will provide life skills enhancement and psychological support that will equip the students to be productive, well-balanced, responsible and competent members of society. The Center shall promote and strengthen the holistic development of students.

Functions and Services

Facilitates and helps students in the achievement of their personal, social, spiritual and academic development as well as the acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills in career planning.

Promotes holistic development and helps students to become well-adjusted individuals through responsive guidance and counseling services in line with the year level thrust and the university’s vision-mission.

Creates preventive/proactive guidance programs that lead to the enrichment and satisfaction of students learning and experiences necessary for a successful and well-balanced student life.

About the Director

Ms. Cecilia M. Deakin, MAEd, RGC, RPm

About the Director

Endowed with a heart to listen, Ms. Cecilia M. Deakin is a determined Registered Guidance Counselor.

Her capacity to excel and achieve during her High School years was left unnoticed by the City Government of Makati and the JCI Makati during their Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of Makati (TOSM) and recognized her being a TOSM (1984) awardee who value God-given knowledge and leadership potential by striving to excel in her studies.

A consistent achiever during her college years, she graduated Cum Laude in pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree and received various leadership and academic awards at the Philippine Normal College.

True to her passion to guide and help, she was empowered to pursue continuing professional education on Master of Arts in Education, Major in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Makati on 2016. She passed the licensure examinations for Guidance Counselors and Psychometricians. At present, she is an active member of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association, Inc. (PGCA) and the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP).

A passionate advocate of Mental Health, a volunteer, a researcher, a peer adviser, these are some of her advocacies in touching and making difference in students’ lives. Being blessed with counseling skills, she is also empowered to care!

Student Organization

Peer Facilitators Association (PFA)

PFA is an official student organization of the University of Makati where group of volunteer students advocate in assisting their fellow students through various activities that are aligned with the Center for Guidance Services. It aims to provide leadership and facilitating skills to its members; and to enhance life skills and maintain a healthy well-being of UMak Herons.
